Sometimes sin is like a jail cell. It's comfortable and you don't want to leave because you have everything you want. The door is wide open so you can leave when you want, but you are tricked into believing that it's good. But one day, it's going to be too late, the door is going to slam shut, and you'll be trapped in there.
This is all a part of Satan's plan. He wants you think that the jail cell you're in is where it is safe and secure. But in reality, he is circling around you and waiting for those doors to slam shut so that it's too late.
"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." 1 Peter 4:8
God warns us that Satan is out there and wants us to fail. We desperately wants to destroy you and steal away your joy because he has none. But God says that he has come so that we can have an abundant and joyful life.
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10
Sometimes Satan will trick us into thinking that the way we're living is okay. He will blind us from seeing it as sin and so that we can't see the beauty of living for Jesus. He is serious about what he is doing because his goal is for you to be convinced that living apart from Jesus is okay and cool.
"The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." 2 Corinthians 4:4
He has also blinded us from seeing Jesus right outside the jail cell. Jesus wants us to just run out as fast as we can and into his mighty, loving arms. Jesus wants to hold you close and show you grace, but you have to decide to run to him.
"Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion." Isaiah 30:18
He longs to have you in his arms like you're his child, because you are. But, he's not going to force his love upon you, you have to accept it.
So, are you cruising through life? Are you comfortable and content with where you are because you think you have everything you need? The truth is, no matter how many times you tell yourself you're happy, you're not. You will never be satisfied until you have surrendered your whole life to God. Then you will experience joy. Then you will have satisfaction and peace. But until you run out of that jail cell into Jesus' arms, you will never have that pure joy. You will be stuck in the jail cell.
