Some students just hate to withdraw from a class, even when the situation is dire or hopeless. Here are some situations when you should really consider withdrawing.

Your Class Time Is the Same as Your Nap Time

There's no way that you are learning anything if you are unconscious during every class. Fall asleep in too many classes, and you'll find that it will be nearly impossible to catch up. If the class is so boring that you are falling asleep during each session, you probably aren't going to want to catch up on all of that reading and the lectures, anyway. You might want to just withdraw from the class when you can, so you can really catch up on your sleep.

Your Grade is a F-

If you are so behind in the class that you have no idea of what the professor is talking about, and you can't even find your syllabus, you might want to think about withdrawing. I'm all for hanging in there, but let's be realistic. Maybe you are just not interested in the class enough to put in the amount of work that you'll need to do to get a decent grade. If you want to keep your GPA up and excel in the class, it might be better to try taking the class at another time when you can have a fresh start.

Clueless About the Class

If you are so completely clueless that you do not have the slightest idea of what the class is about it's necessary to withdraw. Maybe you had a completely different idea of the class' topic. Especially if this class in not in your major, you should consider letting it go. If this class is required in your major, you will need to do some major studying to catch up.. You might even consider changing your major. It's one thing to be behind in your studies, but it's another thing to be so lost that you do not even understand the subject area of the class.

Personality Clash

It's always best to learn how to interact with diverse people, but if you simply can't bear your instructor or professor your grades in the class might suffer, You should be able to get over any irksome behavior (real or imagined) but if you can't stand listening to what your professor has to say, you probably will find it hard to learn from him or her. You might be better off withdrawing and attempting the class with a professor whom you can tolerate.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
