It's The Military, Not A Pride Campaign

President Donald Trump announced earlier that he plans to reinstate a ban on transgender individuals from serving "in any capacity" in the US armed forces.

The U.S. military has one goal, to protect and defend. Or as Article 1 section 8 of the Constitution reads, "to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions."

The Military is not a pride campaign. It's not a "petri-dish" social experiment. It doesn't matter if you are the most patriotic person in the United States. Being in the military is not a right it's a privilege. People have been denied due to being overweight, underweight, too short, and too sick. So it's a little more complicated than "If they are capable they should be able to serve because it's their right" It's also not the military's or anyone's obligation to pay for gender reconstructive surgeries that could make things worse.

However being transgender is not even a biological issue, it's a psychological one.

After doing some research, I found a study that stated "Prevalence of suicide attempts is elevated among those who disclose to everyone that they are transgender or gender-non-conforming (50%) and among those that report others can tell always (42%) or most of the time (45%) that they are transgender or gender non-conforming even if they don’t tell them"

Serving in the military is by no means easy. You make hard sacrifices everyday and sometimes that includes not being able to come home to your family. When you are in the military you will have rigorous training. The military trains you to go to war. Last I checked when you're away at war -- you will need to be mentally capable to handle death on a regular basis and be able to kill to defend yourself and others around you.

You need to be mentally capable of handling that kind of physical and psychological trauma. When doing research on suicide rate among U.S veterans -- I found that each year we lose 5,000 veterans to suicide.

With the suicide rates of transexual people -- they are being set up to fail. War is by no means "PC". The next war we have is more than likely going to be over seas in the middle east. A girl wearing a mini skirt was arrested and questioned. It is a different world over seas. They have different values and beliefs.

While people are very upset -- at how impulsive President Donald Trump may have presented this, it is the right decision. However, I support and love transgender people, I'm all for it -- and I agree with Trump's Ban. This does not make me a bigot, not a hypocrite. I simply recognize that active recognition of trans people has a place, the military is not that place.

And then there are some who are not upset at all:

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
