Anyone from the South might understand the utter shock and excitement that occurs on that first day of the fall season where the weather is actually cool or cold outside.

It’s definitely not too normal for the temperature to drop lower than 75 degrees. In the South, fall weather is received with many different types of mixed reactions. You may recognize these types of people, or you might even be one of them.

1. The Overly Excited

The first group of people you might see in the South are those who were actively waiting for Fall weather and all that is related to Fall. They’re mainly the type of people that prefer the cold weather instead of the blistering heat that is the summer.

The “Overly Excited” Southerners are the type of people who should really be living further North or maybe in the mountains. You can easily spot them by looking for the people that wear heavy jackets and sweaters when the temperature drops even slightly below 75 degrees.

2. The Unbiased

eh

In stark contrast to the “Overly Excited” Southerners, the “Unbiased” are the people that only see the changing weather as a progression of the year.

They might have the same amount of excitement for this season as they do any other season, with the acknowledgment of the different types of holidays that are in this season. In the South, you might see these people dressed in a light jacket and jeans, or maybe in a long-sleeved shirt.

They usually don’t go out of their way to alter how they dress just because it’s a different season.

3. The Holiday Crafters

Although they may be in the same category as the “Overly Excited,” the “Holiday Crafters” are the Southerners that are very handy with glitter and a glue gun.

Their homes are the most likely to have handmade wreaths that change out every week depending on what football games or fall events were taking place that week. You might also see handmade Halloween costumes or ultra elaborate group costumes around the end of October. This type of Southerner is easily recognizable by the random specks of glitter on their clothes or face and the random craft supplies sticking out of their hair.

4. The Summer Lovers

These Southerners dread the day the weather changes. As soon as the temperature drops, their grumbles and complaining about the cold weather can be heard from all over. This type of Southerner can be identified by their resistance to jeans, jackets and long-sleeved apparel. These people also try to continue summer activities well after those activities should be over with, like going swimming or sunbathing.

5. The Christmas Elves

Another type of Southerner you might see during the fall season is those who are only surviving because of the light at the end of the tunnel...meaning Christmas.

Much to the dismay of those who love fall, the “Christmas Elves” share their Christmas cheer by blasting Christmas music well before Halloween has even occurred. They also might already have their Christmas tree and decor prepped and ready to go, minus the outdoor lights.

They might be up already, but they aren’t on yet! Everyone else, be prepared for the full force of this group right after Halloween and Thanksgiving because guess what? They have a countdown and they aren’t afraid to tell you every single day.

6. The Aesthetically Pleasing

The last group that you might identify during the autumn season is the people that thrive off of the activities during the season.

These people tend to have their Instagram’s popping with colorful photos of themselves with their friends or groups of people at county and state fairs, at pumpkin patches, outdoors in the mountains or in their best fall attire.

Their posts strive to be aesthetically pleasing to the code of fall colors and moods, which means that their photos tend to be more color-coded and precise. Their outfits are always on point in the fall in comparison to barely trying in the seasons they don’t prefer, but they are willing to do anything to help out others take the best fall photos.

All of these types of Southerners are the people you might see or even be during the fall season. With the leaves changing and the temperature dropping, all different reactions will be known during the season.

For me personally, I am a mix between the “Overly Excited” and the “Aesthetically Pleasing”! Whatever type you may be, enjoy the changing weather and activities whether you prefer the spooky side of Halloween or the gentle nature of Thanksgiving and family gatherings. Enjoy fall y’all!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
