If you never watched or even heard of ABC's "The Family," well, you missed out because they canceled it over a year and a half ago. Yes, I'm still a little upset.
OK, I'm extremely salty that they canceled it.
Sure, it was a little slow and took a while to build up its momentum to grasp the attention of its viewers, but it was still an interesting plot line. Let me explain:
"The Family" was about a politician's son named Adam who went missing for 10 years. The whole family and town thought Adam was dead, at this point, since he was never found. One day, Adam makes his return, confusing and shocking everyone in town. While everyone was happy that he was back home, some couldn't but become suspicious as to why he suddenly return ed and where he was for the past 10 years. Family drama starts and secrets come about, thus tainting the image of the politician mother and her family as she struggles to keep her image clean to run for governor.
It gets better!
*Spoiler alert*
Later in the season, viewers find out the Adam that came back isn't the real Adam. It's another boy who was missing and was actually kidnapped and held captive in a bunker along with the real Adam by some man that the town has no suspicions of. Adam's family had put their creepy neighbor that lived across the street in jail because they thought he was the one who took and murdered Adam, but clearly, they were wrong.
Fake Adam was found by real Adam's sister and she basically hires him to be her brother. Her mother starts to figure out that it's not really her son but pretends to not notice as to not make matters worse for her family with the election happening and the fact that her husband was having an affair.
The real question everyone had on their minds? Where is the real Adam? Is he alive? Well, fake Adam said real Adam had died, but that was a lie! He was alive and well and had escaped from his captor.
Two days before the "season finale", they announced that the show was canceled and this would be the last episode. I was angry, as were many others. How would this end? Well, the last five minutes of the show were intense. The scene is set of the family sitting in the kitchen and the phone rings, fake Adam picks up the phone.
"Hello?"
*Silence*
THEY SHOW REAL ADAM ON THE OTHER END OF THE LINE
"You took my life. I'm coming to get it back"
You can watch the intense moment here.
That's how they left it. Adam is alive. Viewers were throwing fits, petitioning for ABC to renew the series, claiming they will watch "Quantico" in return. They even started tweeting Netflix to pick up the show. I'm still clinging to a thread of hope that they will do one of these things and revive the show. I need closure, we all do.
