You have just finished reading your favorite book series. On top of that, you've waited, anticipated and seen the movies bring these books to life, but you've finished those too. What now?
Recently, I read the "Hunger Games" series. Of course, I've seen each and every one of the movies and felt emotionally attached (just not as attached as I felt while reading the books). I read through these books so quickly that it became my favorite pastime. It might sound weird to say I'm attached more to the characters than the story, but I know some of you can relate. We all want a friendship like Gale and Katniss. We all want someone to love us the way Peeta loves Katniss. We feel for the Everdeen family when Mr. Everdeen dies.
Before I read the books, I was nervous because I had seen the movies and was most definitely Team Peeta. Most of my friends said I'd be Team Gale, and not just because the handsome Liam Hemsworth plays the role in the movie. Honestly, I stayed Team Peeta and plan on being Team Peeta forever. Gale just never captured my heart in either the book or the movie (which made sense because I actually liked the fact that I'd seen the movies beforehand). I liked being able to put a face to a name, even if it was a celebrity like Jennifer Lawrence or Josh Hutchinson. I also liked being able to have many of my questions answered, questions I had while watching the movie. I was able to see the depth of the rivalry between the tributes more. I finally understood the history and location of Panem, but there were still questions unanswered. For example, why is 12 an undesirable district? What was the real cause of the mining accident that killed Katniss's father?
Then, there were parts of the book I was upset got left out of the movie. The significance of the Mockingjay pin. The way Katniss held Peeta's pearl close to her heart. How the woods meant more than hunting to Katniss and Gale. I would have sat through the movies for much longer if it meant I got to see some of these scenes on the big screen, but at the same time I don't think they could have done a better job translating the novels' scenes to film. Rue's death was touching, making everyone in the audience cry. The interviews before "The Hunger Games" were flawless. The reality of the mutts from the game was horrifying.
The books and films are over, so my only advice to you is to read a new book series and fall in love with the new story and new characters as well as the message that it tries to convey.
