Okay, so there’s been a lot of discussion about gun control since the school shooting in Parkland, Fl. There have even been marches and protests from students who felt the need to march and protest for gun control, since the shooting. There’s one thing that I would like to address here which has African American communities around the U.S. mourning constantly which are the police shootings of unarmed black men. Now, you can bring into discussion the issues with the teen shooting up a high school, but what about eh wrongful police shootings that are becoming more reoccurring.

Now do not get me wrong, the shooting of seventeen children is by far the most awful thing that can happen as it revolves around the issue of school shootings by teenage males. My heart truly goes out to the families whose lives were forever changed or altered in any way. I will also say that my heart goes out to the families and students whose lives were rattled by this incident because of nineteen-year-old Nikolas Cruz, however, my opinion is that Cruz should’ve had more supervision.

I remember being eighteen and nineteen years of age and my mother and grandmother still knowing my every move at any given time. But when you contemplate about twenty- year old Stephon Clark an unarmed father and African American young man, who was gunned down by police, you must wonder, “why”.

Why were there twenty, and this is an accurate number of twenty rounds fired into this poor young man, who was told to put his hands up and when he did, he was shot. And I do believe that the correct verbiage is executed. The incoming report was that someone was busting out windows with a crowbar, no reports of shots fired or that someone had a gun, with this information it is very damaging and very hard to not notice that this man was gunned down because of his skin color.

And it does show in news records that there have not been any protest s or marches for this young man in a way that they are pushing for gun control due to this school shooting.

Now school shootings do occur at random but there has been an abundance of police shootings of black men, from the fatal shootings of Fred Hampton, Sean Bell, Tamir Rice, Philando Castile, and Alton Sterling. Now, this brings me back to my previous article of reasons why it is important for our culture to stay woke. This is important right now because our young men need to stay woke about their image.

The image of the “Black Man In America”, is being worn down by our culture murdering each other just to gain rep or become an infamous figure. The issues of school shootings should not go unresolved as well, in which I just do not believe that gun control is the best way to solve this issue unless you are looking to serve officers with harsh punishments when they murder civilians.

So, there it is from me Rey, my thoughts on this gun control discussion. There needs to be an understanding of both issues to conclude on how to communicate and resolve these issues. Thanks for reading!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
