Is Valentine's Day really important? Of course the February holiday is meant to celebrate love and eat chocolate, but is it really worth it?
We don't get holiday pay for Valentine's Day and if you are dating long distance like I am, you just get to sit at home. Of course, most couples are out enjoying dinner, but you don't have that luxury, when the person you are dating isn't with you. So what do you do? Sleep? Binge watch Grey's Anatomy? Eat all the chocolate you have?
I know my plan this year includes a day shift, so I'll be working 7 am to 3 pm, commuting my two hours home, and probably going to bed. Since there is no point to stay up, or go out and have a cute dinner, or see some Valentine's Day movie, when I'd be by myself.
But I could just be biased. I love all of the love at Valentine's Day and I'm probably just being sour about the whole having to reschedule Valentine's Day thing. Sorry honey, I wanted Valentine's Day as much as I wanted Christmas, and we both know the temper tantrum I threw over rescheduling Christmas.
But I made Christmas work. I took time off for that, but this isn't the same and I understand. I know you are trying your best to make this work, and I know that there is nothing we can do. I'm sorry I'm being a salted caramel about this whole Valentine's Day thing, but I know next year we will do something better than nothing.
So is Valentine's Day worth it? Or is it just some sort of ploy to drive girlfriends absolutely crazy about being unable to do something cute?
