There are two types of people every holiday season:
1. The people who think it is socially acceptable to start “Dreaming of a White Christmas” as soon as Halloween ends…
2. And those who simply do not.
That’s OK, everyone is entitled to their own opinion! Though there are definitely points to be made for both sides.
Let it be known that yes, I completely agree that it is simply the most wonderful time of the year. I’m 100 percent one of the people who begins celebrating this cheerful holiday as soon as the carved pumpkins and goblins go into their year-long hibernation, but here’s my reasoning behind it:
Since this is by far one of my favorite holidays, I want to prolong the merriment and anticipation of it for as long as I possibly can. Taking in the smells of pine needles and cinnamon sticks, and singing cheesy carols is something I perpetuate because this season only happens so many times in a lifetime. I want to embrace the joy that I feel and make others feel the same for the entirety of the holiday season, not just 25 days of it! This all sounds so corny, and feels like it could come from the script of a poorly directed holiday special, but the truth of it is, people who start their celebrating on November 1st really just want their Christmas season to be embraced to the fullest! This being said though, I can completely see the other side of the holiday celebration argument.
There is indeed a turkey (or Tofurkey) to be had! I fully understand that Thanksgiving may be someone’s favorite holiday and they definitely don’t want that to be overshadowed by the commercialism which can sometimes be how Christmas is defined. Also, some people just don’t want to face Christmas before Thanksgiving because they may not enjoy it as much as other people may, and it may bring more stress than joy! This is definitely respectable since the people rushing into Christmas are diving headlong into a two month marathon of “Jingle Bells”, sugar cookies, and twinkle lights.
Both viewpoints are totally valid.
And both should definitely be noted: whether you take heed of the Christmas spirit early, or decide to wait until after the bellies are full, just enjoy your holiday season the way you want to, regardless of how early others are!
