I have had my fair share of experience with Apple, Apple products and the Apple Store. Two laptops and four generations of iPhones later, I am still loyal to Apple through and through. If you know me, you would know that I am one of the most irresponsible people on this planet, and as of last Friday, I've shattered every generation of the iPhone that I've had. Talk about #FirstWorldProblems.
During my time spent with Apple products, I've heard it all, “Sucks that you have to buy an expensive case just to keep your phone intact,” “Droid phones don't crack like that,” and “Too bad Apple doesn't cover that damage!” In fact, if you know anything about phones that aren’t Apple, you'll know that other brands have a much wider range of capabilities and are super customizable (whereas the closest you get to customizing an iPhone is changing your wallpaper).
But there is so much more to Apple than the durability of their products. The truth is that Apple’s brand power stands in a league of its own. It is a powerhouse fueled by simplistic commercials, sleek designs and a minimal number of products. They even make a huge deal out of their new-product launches the hype up their customers. Because of all this, the use of Apple products has become a status symbol in America.
So why do we do it? Why do we fight this constant battle of cracked screens, broken lock buttons and assistive touch? We do it because we love the idea of having an “iPhone” and let’s be honest; most of us can't wait until our upgrade to get the latest model, even if it is two years away. Apple is a domino-effect brand, meaning that once you own one of their products, you're going to want another one. All of their products seamlessly link contacts, photos, messages and so much more, making it much easier for you to use another Apple product. Also, most of us Apple users have been just that from day one. Our first smartphone was an iPhone, so why crossover now? I'll be honest, if you put an Android in front of me today, I don't think I would even know how to unlock it; those phones have an insane amount of functions.
So there, I said it. Androids are better phones. But iPhones are simple, comfortable, and convenient. You could even say most Apple users practice blind loyalty when it comes to their phone because they just couldn't imagine using a different phone or they are just happy with what they have. And that reason right there is what makes Apple who they are.
So get out there, buy your third-party insurance and overpriced Otter Box, and you use that iPhone until it shatters ... or your home button falls off.
