iPhone 8 Vs. iPhone X?

The differences between the new iPhones that you need to know before you order...

After months of having us wait and watch Snapchat articles about iPhone 8 speculations, Apple has finally come out with the newest iPhone. I mean, iPhones. The new iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus and the iPhone X (I didn't even know iPhone X was a thing) all came out along with other new Apple products, and we are all raving about them.

So apparently, Apple's vision was not always to keep making bigger iPhones, but to create an iPhone that is entirely screen. And that has come true for iPhone X. But do we prefer the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus versions with which they kept the good old home buttons? Or are we going to be addicted to the new experiences that iPhone X will provide us with the new additional features? Let's compare 'em.

1. Price.

As you may already know, iPhone X, for its obviously high-tech features, is about $200-300 more expensive than iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. It might not matter if you're rich enough to be able to afford a new iPhone, but for those of us who desperately need an update from an iPhone 4S or 5S, it may be a deciding factor.

2. Home Button

As I mentioned, one of the biggest differences between the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus and the iPhone X is that iPhone X does not have a home button, and Apple has come up with an ever more high-tech solution than a touch ID for security: the facial recognition. Now, with that new feature, you might be amazed as I was, but it also means that you have to learn to navigate through your iPhone without a home button. How would I quit apps and go back to my home screen?

3. Camera

We might miss the familiar home buttons, but we certainly have a winner if you compare the camera features for the new iPhones. Though iPhone 8 has a 7MP FaceTime HD Camera, the iPhone X has the TrueDepth, a new feature that makes the facial recognition possible. It also allows what's called the Portrait Mode Selfies (sounds perfect for our generation), where the camera adjusts the light accordingly and blurs your background to make your face stand out even more. The iPhone X also has two cameras in the back that can achieve this, whereas iPhone 8 only has one, and does not have this feature.

4. The Animoji

Another thing that the TrueDepth features allows iPhone X to do is the Animoji. Apparently, the TrueDepth can analyze more than "50 different muscle movements" that can create animated emojis that mirror your facial movements. Now that's cool. iPhone 8 can't really match up on this one.

5. Order Date

This is probably the biggest setback for those of you who are considering the iPhone X over the 8 and 8 pls. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are available on September 22nd, while the iPhone X will be available on November 3rd. Who wants to wait that long? I'm sure that there are plenty of people who have been waiting to upgrade their iPhones, so I'm not sure they would be patient for another 2 months. Now that's if they're lucky enough to pre-order it before they run out of the stock.

6. Color

Finally, this is just a slight difference, but the iPhone 8 (and plus) are offered in three colors (Gold, Silver and Space Grey) while the iPhone X only offers Silver and Space Grey. It may not matter to some, but those of you who are trying to match it to their new Gold Macbook or their iPhone cases, it does.

Which one would you choose?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
