Being Dependent On Others Is Important For Healthy Relationships Because It's Not Embarrassing

Asking people for help is not something we should be embarrassed about; instead, we should happily ask others for help.

Bernard Shaw once said, "Independence? That's middle-class blasphemy. We are all dependent on one another, every soul of us on earth."

This quote is saying that in our world today we look for independence more than dependence. We do this because we have forgotten what interdependence is. Along with that, we have to grow up and find our unselfish and mature selves because, in a world where independence is what everyone is looking for, nothing will get done.

In the world we live in today, we all have busy lives, but our lives that we make can easily become less of a hassle if we ask others for help. Being too afraid to ask one for help is one of the big reasons as to why this "middle-class blasphemy" is more independent than dependent. Know that I am not saying that by being more independent is bad, I am just saying that sometimes when we need help with something we do not ask anyone because we try to fix it all in our own. However, by being interdependent we are neither super independent nor super dependent.

An example of interdependence is in The Hunger Games: Catching Fireby Suzanne Collins. One of the major themes in this book is interdependence versus independence. In the book, Peta and Katniss are often considered interdependent just like most of the other tributes. Since they all want to survive, they help each other out throughout the game. However, throughout the book, the reader can easily see that Katniss wants independence, and she does not get it ever since she had started the games. Because of the interdependence between all the tributes and characters, Katniss and Peta survive and their work got done. Just like that anyone can see that interdependence is better than independence.

Lastly, when a country goes to war they are dependent on the other countries to help them so everyone for not die and does not spread to other countries. Just like that the other countries are interdependent on each other because since they helped one country that country will help them if they are ever in trouble. Whether it is money or resources that the other country needs they will be there for each other.

In the end, our world puts too much pressure on independence because we have an instinct to try to fix all the problems our selves, and we do not tell others anything nor do we ask others for help. However, we need to stop being afraid to ask others for help and be mature and unselfish people, so we can figure out our interdependence. If we do not do this then the world will go crazy because no one will be helping each other and there will be disputes everywhere. Just like we saw in Catching Fire, interdependence is the way to go because then the work gets done and everyone survives. That is why our world needs interdependence, not independence.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
