10 Things I Do Instead Of Schoolwork

I will do almost anything to get out of schoolwork

It is almost the middle of the fall semester for many students. Classes are becoming harder, there is more homework, and there will be multiple tests some weeks. Sometimes, college requires a lot of studying, especially when you reach your upper-level major classes, but that doesn't always happen. I have made a list of 10 things I regularly do instead of schoolwork, and I hope I am not the only one that procrastinates.

1. Play games on my phone

Many times, I will take pictures of notes in class and will need to look at my phone to write down some descriptive statistics I didn't want to spend the time to write down. That leads to me eventually playing Crashy Ctas or a free version of Phase 10 instead of looking at my notes.

2. Watching Netflix

There are so many good shows and movies on Netflix, and when you start to watch something, you soon will be telling yourself "just one more episode." Who wants to write a lab report when you can watch "Stranger Things" for the sixth time?

3. Talk to my roommates

I live with two of my best friends, so if you want to be distracted in our household, all you have to do is knock on someone's door. Ask one of them about their day and you'll be sitting there for an hour.

4. Eat

This one is pretty explanatory. This is an actual gif of me.

5. Play with my dog

My dog lives in the apartment with us and she is a bundle of fun. Even if I just make eye contact with this dog, she will come over and demand that I pet her. She is a great distraction from my everyday schoolwork.

6. Sleep

On Tuesdays, I have to get up at 6:30, and every other day, I get up at 8. Thursday is my sleep-in day where I sleep in until 9. This means that sometimes, I am very tired and homework is the last thing I want to do. so what is it that I do instead? Take a nap.

7. Read

I love reading. I have a cycle of about three or four series that I go through reading throughout the year. Going to fight an evil warlock is ten times better than going to Medeval Literature. Why wouldn't I want to escape to a fantasy world instead of studying for a test?

8. Do unnecessary errands

Oh, I have a paper to write? Better go to the store. There's a test on Tuesday? Better wash my car. I will do any off-topic errand that gets me out of schoolwork because I still feel productive when I accomplish those tasks.

9. Look on Amazon lightning deals

I have Amazon Prime and that means that I can get some crazy discounts on Amazon lightning deals. Even if I don't buy anything, there are over twenty pages of products that I have to look through because the thing that I may need in thirty years may be on sale.

10. Researching the history of dragon myths

I will do almost anything to get out of schoolwork, so researching the history of dragon myths is something so weird and so off-topic that it helps me forget about the ten pieces of homework, three tests, and four papers I have to do for the next week.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
