9 Things You Can Do Instead of Studying

Finals week is upon us, folks.

Studying might be the worst thing ever created in this world, and when that studying is in preparation for finals, it's somehow, inexplicably, a million times worse. If you're new to the procrastination game, here are some things you can do instead of bettering your education!

Plan a vacation

Always wanted to go to Greece and live out that Mamma Mia inspired dream? Now's your time to make it happen! Except don't actually book that flight, because chances are your bank account can't take that hit. No matter how desperate you are.

Clean that dorm room, honey!!

Who cares if it hasn't been cleaned in who-knows-how-long? Or if you were the last one to clean up the place? Now's your time to shine!

Start a new show on Netflix

Maybe start that one the random kid next to you in your Spanish class suggested a million times. Or restart that one you've seen one too many times. And obviously, you can't just watch one episode, binge that thing!

Purge your closet

You know that t-shirt that's been hanging at the back of your closet since fifth grade for no apparent reason? Now's the perfect time to get rid of it! Not in a week, not in a month. Right now.

Put off your most important, most urgent homework... with other homework!

This is a fairly new concept to me, but it works like a charm. Put off your most important stuff with other stuff! You'll still get that feeling of productivity without doing the work you dread the most!

Make a detailed schedule of when and how you're going to get all of your work done

Obviously you're not going to stick with it, but in the moment you can justify its existence.

Eat a decent meal for once...

...because it's college and let's be honest, we don't do that very often here.

Get in a good workout and spend an hour hyping yourself up for your new exclusively healthy lifestyle

....and then spend an hour hyping yourself up for your new exclusively healthy lifestyle. Bonus points if your roommate or hallmate or ANYONE wants to go get ice cream, in which case you will both A), break your new exclusively healthy lifestyle plan and B), procrastinate even more!

Take a nap!

Who doesn't love a good nap! It's a perfect distraction AND a healthy choice since your sleep-deprived college mind and body probably needs a few good hours of shut-eye.

But seriously, maybe consider studying for finals at some point... might be a good idea, but what do I know?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
