Ever heard of Pounce? Pounce is a place where you can hang around fuzzy kittens, sip on a drink, and give in to a delicious pastry. Pounce has teamed up with the Charleston Animal Society to cater the needs of supplying kittens.
If that already sounds great, here's something even better. If you happen to fall in love with one of the rescue kittens, Pounce does adoptions on the spot. They give the option to bring a sweet feline home with you and who doesn't love a lap kitty.
While visiting Charleston for orientation, I had my first experience in this Cat Cafe. My mom and I walked into a friendly environment with knowledgeable staff who told us about the history of Pounce and what they are all about. Next thing we knew, we had booked an appointment. As someone who has recently been under a lot of stress, I personally find this a wonderful form of therapy.
After getting an iced coffee, I sat down on the floor next to a few sleepy snuggled up kittens. Then out of the corner of my eye comes a black playful guy chasing string and flopping around. After engaging with him for a little, I then found myself sitting on the windowsill, completely indulged with a petite black and white kitten who didn't seem too enthused by the people in the cafe. A shy little one, but then with a fuzzy white pillow on my lap curled up and slept on me.
As an avid animal lover, I believe what they are doing at Pounce is quite amazing. Charleston's Pounce has adopted over 300 kittens out since they opened. That deserves applause. Local shelters have trouble adopting cats and kittens out for many reasons. I applaud whoever came out with a cat cafe for two reasons:
1. You created an adoption friendly environment, which gives people the comfort and ease allowing them to fall in love with one of the rescues.
2. To many people, there is no better way to de stress then playing with sweet animals. This coming from a girl who had a lot going on at the time, and walked out of Pounce with a smile on her face.
Pounce cat cafe has other locations as well, including ones in New York and San Francisco. I highly recommend visiting your closest cat cafe, I'm sure you wont be disappointed.
