A society simply cannot proclaim that freedom has been obtained while modern-day slavery seizes the lives of an estimated 200,000 women annually inside the United States alone. Around 600,000-800,000 victims are shuttled across the U.S border in this highly lucrative business. The issue transcends across all borders, indiscriminately dominating third and first world countries alike. According to the International Labor Organization in 2012, human trafficking stripped the liberty and rights of 20.9 victims worldwide. America is apart of these startling statistics and knowledge of the issue must become as present as the criminal activity exploiting the young girls and young adults.
Girls and women are taken, forcibly addicted to drugs, and raped repeatedly, sometimes up to 25 times a day. Darkening America’s streets and innocence, human trafficking must be met with fierce opposition, a knowledgeable approach, and a strong-willed desire for justice and liberty. Human trafficking is the second largest criminal activity in the world, just under drugs and its presence dominates the streets everyday Americans walk on. In fact, the Super Bowl is the largest annual human trafficking event. Raising awareness to this issue reiterates the foundation of American values instilled in every thumping and patriotic American heart.
