I’ll never forget when my brother convinced me to watch “Iron Man” with him when I was younger. With that one movie, that one character, I fell in love with the Marvel cinematic universe. Marvel movies over the past several years have become the superhero movies everyone deserves, after so many monumental failures such as Tobey Maguire being Spider-Man and DC’s “Wonder Woman” falling short of being the powerful feminist movie I expected.
If you’re a fan of Marvel, you’ll know that the most recent Avengers movie, “Infinity War,” just came out in theaters a few weeks ago. “Infinity War” is the culmination of years of Marvel movies, bringing together all the main characters people have learned to love in one giant, action-packed, hilarious, tear-jerking film as the heroes take on the biggest threat yet to all of life in the universe. Now I don’t want to include any spoilers, but all I can say is that years of waiting for this movie meant a lot of anticipation, excitement and worry that such a feat couldn’t be accomplished.
However, “Infinity War” is the perfect superhero movie to both appease and leave a Marvel fan crying for more.
If you’re sitting there thinking to yourself that maybe you’ll check out “Infinity War” even though you’re not updated on the Marvel franchise, you should stop yourself and watch all the other movies beforehand. “Infinity War” gives no time recounting character arcs or relationships, but instead completely thrusts you into a story you’ll only truly understand if you’re well-versed with who is who and what is what.
Although the movie jumps around a lot and connects characters you’d never imagine would work well together, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor, everything is executed so seamlessly that by the end of movie it becomes hard to imagine it being any other way.
My childhood-self who was fascinated with Iron Man could not be more pleased about how far the Marvel cinematic universe has come. And my adult-self cannot wait to see what more is on the horizon.
