The 1995 World Series. A college football national championship 37 years ago. These were won by the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs, respectively. And these are pretty much the only things that Atlanta has to its name.
Never have we won an NBA championship, even after the Atlanta Hawks have been to the playoffs for 18 straight years. Never have we won a Super Bowl, despite reaching it in 1998, getting crushed, and reaching it last year, and blowing a 28-3 lead starting late in the third quarter.
We've only won one World Series, despite reaching it 5 times in the 1990s. And on Monday, January 8th, 2018, this curse continued: As the Georgia Bulldogs blew a 13-0 lead against Alabama in the CFP National Championship. And if you haven't guessed, this exact feat was the inspiration for this article. And if our teams are good, they blow huge leads, as seen on Monday and the 2017 Super Bowl, the 1991 World Series (a blown call too), and much more. Atlanta is so bad at sports that our hockey team left for Winnipeg. Winnipeg, in Canada. One can easily say that Atlanta/Georgia is the worst city/state for sports, and unless our teams can do something to change that, the idea will stick.
