No, Independent Voters Didn't Bring The Rise To Trumps Election Win

The problem during the 2016 election wasn't lack of voter turnout, but the failures of the democratic party.

Recently, I've noticed many democrats that have been using independent voters as a scapegoat for the recent election loss. This absolves the people who chose to vote for Trump from responsibility as well as the failures of the democratic candidate during the election.

I could list countless reasons why Hilary wasn't a good candidate and how the media enabled Trump's rise in popularity. Unfortunately, rather than reevaluating the parties goals and its flaws, some democrats chose to yell at independent voters and nonvoters. This would make sense if Hilary didn't win the popular vote. If anything people should be angry at our electoral voting system.

I personally think Hilary was not a good democratic candidate. Few people really clicked with her as a politician, she lacked charisma, and she wasn't exciting in terms of her promises and policies. The democratic party also went through a major amount of criticism for their interference with Bernie and the primaries.

What I failed to understand about the election was why they chose to push Hilary on to the voters when Bernie was doing astoundingly well. Even most political models projected that Bernie would have had a better voter turnout than Hilary when put against Trump. This obsession with making Hilary the democratic queen, even after the first failed attempt, makes no sense to me.

Also why do we gloat so much about voters rights in America, yet we are told to stay "loyal" to our parties despite own individual interests. If I had the ability to vote during the election, I would have chosen not to vote either. Mainly because Hilary bores me as a candidate, and I have no interest in our bipartisan system. I wish Americans would vote for their personal interests over this obligation they feel for their chosen party.

Our elections have shown that politicians don't really have to serve us. If anything we serve the party and that is not a true democracy. I'm tired of the democratic party and its lack of growth because of this focus on winning elections. Many Americans are tired too. This election had a very low voter turnout compared to previous elections on the democratic side because the party refuses to take constructive criticisms. Rather than seeing the democratic party cry about loyalty and voter disgrace, I would like to see them work on reaching a larger audience and standing up for beliefs their more fervently.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
