Moving to college is always a fun thought until it becomes a scary packing reality for you.

You are always struggling with what to bring with you and how you will get it all done in time. I remember waiting until the last minute the first time I moved out of my house and it sucked. Those last days that all of my friends were spending by the pool together I missed out on because I had to take care of everything that I put off all summer.

So, don't be like me, take some time everyday and pack a few things away and leave them in an area where you won't be temtped to open them and use them. The best part about unpacking is getting to use all new stuff.

Here are a few things that you can go ahead and knock out if you don't know where your list should begin.

1. Dorm Decor

You literally won't need it until you move in so why keep it all over the place?

2. First Aid/Tool Kit

You want to make sure that you will have EVERYTHING because the first time you get sick away from home you will want to be prepared.

3. Laundry Stuff

Again, something you won't need until you move but you want to make sure you have it all. Sheets that smell like home when you are in a foreign place could just be your saving grace.

4. Kitchen Utensils

Cups, plates, bowls, eating utensils, silverware. You may think you will just eat in the dining hall of the time, but you won't. There is a reason Ramen is only $0.25.

5. Power Cords/Cables

My saving grace my freshman year from the shitty dorm WiFi was the super long ethernet cable my dad got for me. Also, do you really not want your TV to work because you left the cord at home on move-in day?

6. Clothes

You don't need to take your whole closet with you but to get a jump start on things you know you probably won't wear over the summer, go ahead and set those aside, it will make it all the easier. Tip for hung-up clothes: Group hangers together and put a trash bag over them, it acts as your own drycleaning bag.

7. School Supplies

Nine times out of ten you have already signed up for classes so you know the basics of what you need. Go ahead and buy them before the prices go up and you have to settle for what is left.

8. Shoes

It is the same principle as your clothes, you know you aren't going to wear all of your heels over the summer, so go ahead and pack them up.

9. Pictures

You are going to be living in this room for the next year, it is essential to make it feel like home.

10. Cleaning Supplies

They may clean the rooms before you get there, but trust me, you will want to wipe everything down before you make it your own. One, it will smell like your own place when you use your supplies, two those rooms have been vacant at least a month.

11. Snacks

Nothing is worse than not having your favorite snacks on those first couple of weeks of not being home.

12. Stamps

Might seem stupid, but snail mail in college is about as amazing as more than $0.10 off a gallon of gas.

13. Iron/Ironing Board or Steamer

Again something that seems stupid, but most places you have to pay to do laundry so you can't just throw that one wrinkly shirt in the dryer when you need it before class.

14. Trashcan/Trashbags

You will produce a lot of trash on move-in weekend so these are a must, and you just won't want to be without one.

15. Step-Stool

Whether it is to get in your lifted bed or to reach the top shelf, this is something mom and dad always have around the house that you will miss.

16. TOILET PAPER

Everybody needs it and you WILL get that first stomach ache away from home and it will suck so make sure it's the good kind. You can start taking it from the bathrooms on campus later.

17. Water Bottle(s)

Most colleges have water bottle refill stations, and YES it is FILTERED so no need to worry about that.

18. Planner and Calendar

This is the first year that you won't have your mom-ager by your side so these will come in handy. I always filled out birthdays and important dates before I tucked it away just so I knew that I had everything that I needed.

19. Shower Stuff

If you have to use a communal shower, you'll need shower shoes, a shower caddy, a robe. If you get your own bathroom you will need a shower curtain, bath mats, a caddy that can stay in your shower. And please, please, PLEASE don't forget towels. I know plenty of people who made this mistake because they were so used to being able to get one out of the closet at home. Oh, and soap, that's a big one.

20. Hair Supplies/Products

You may think it might be overkill to have some with you and at home but trust me on this, you will NOT want to have to remember to bring home your straightener or curl cream everytime you go home. Just get two. It is worth it.

21. Rain-Wear

Nothing is worse than walking to class in wet clothes. Get you some rainboots, a rain jacket and an umbrella or two (I always had one in my bookbag and one in my car).

22. All Important Documents that the School Needs

You may think that you are in the clear because you submitted them online months before but SUPRISE mistakes happen so instead of you having to run around in those last moments you have at home, go ahead and make a copy of your birth certificate, social security card, your immunization records, and passport/visa if you have one. I also kept a list of emergency phone numbers with me (like, on paper not just in my phone) just in case something happened.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
