​How to Improve Mental Health Through Yoga?

Yoga is beneficial for mental health because this is one such spiritual method which is practiced since ancient times and has proved several times to be very effective.

As defined by the "World Health Organization" mental health is " a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and can make a contribution to his or her community". But in this 21st century, several factors disturb the mental health of a person and those factors are a part of individual life. These are something that cannot be removed from life and it depends on upon person to person how they deal with it. But as per the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh there are certain poses or Asanas which can reduce stress and anxiety and help one in improving their mental health.

No organization can say that they will eradicate mental health problems and depression, anxiety, etc. because that is not possible all we can do is improve it. Through yoga, this can be very easily done. There are certain postures in yoga, certain chants that it truly reduces all the stress in one and improves mental health. In 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, there is a certain section where you are taught the mind relaxing chants. If one practices all these chants regularly there will surely be an improvement in your mental health. The best time to practice these is early in the morning absolutely in the laps of nature. One can also listen to relaxing and refreshing music which again helps a lot in the process. In this article today we will talk about how one can improve his or her mental health with the help of yoga and what are the things that one must do in the process.

Most yoga practices improve the mental stress in your body by releasing some brain chemicals which calm the body down. All these chemicals that are released are mood-boosting. Yoga also elevates the heart rate which is again beneficial for the body.

Reduction of Stress- In a study with American people about 86% of them answered that they want yoga in their life because yoga reduced stress in their life. Yoga effectively tightens the muscles and that reduced the tension in the body.

Improve sleep- We often see that older person more than 60 usually have quality and quantity of sleep but the practice of yoga has helped in their sleep pattern. Yoga has helped them in the efficiency of their sleep.

Enhance social life-Yoga class brings in people with contact and thus improves the social life of one person. Yoga classes bring similar personalities together putting one into a happy place.

Healthy Habits- Yoga enhances a routine life in one person and thus enhances good habits in one. This brings in a systematic form of living life. Along with yoga comes a healthy diet and pattern of life as well which as a result influences mental health positively.

Eases out anxiety- Yoga training reduces the anxiety which is directly relayed to breathing problems. Yoga enhances breathing a result which also works on the anxiety issue.

Reduce depression- Yoga is one of the best treatments for depression and research has proved that depression has been one of the most effective measures. This is also one of the most inexpensive methods to improve mental health as well.

These were a few of the benefits that we get from yoga in reducing mental health. How to reduce and get into such a position is a very big question. There are plenty of poses to do so and to make your body calm. Such as the following asanas.

  1. Uttanasana- This poses relaxes the entire body and helps you to keep yourself calm working on the hormones. This pose can be practiced early in the morning to get the best results out of it. You need to stand straight and then bend the entire body touching the feet with your hands. Don't force it but you can try as much as possible. This is one of the most recognized poses in Yoga School in Rishikesh.
  2. Viparita Karani- This pose regulates the blood circulation in the body and relaxes it. Your body is at ease while you are performing this pose and thus this is one of the most effective poses. All you need to do is lie down flat on the floor and put both legs up leaning to a walk and hold the pose. You can also use a cushion for support lie down quietly with closed eyes and keep breathing in and out.
  3. Shavasana- This pose relaxes the entire body and is usually done after a workout or after all the asanas. This pose relaxes each inch of the body and thus helps in improving mental health.

Thus these were the few benefits of yoga in improving mental health and the ways to do them. All these can be performed in the morning empty stomach with a piece of light music to get the best results.
