When you were five, all you wanted to do was to be was an adult. When you were nineteen, all you wanted was to be twenty one. When you were twenty-five, all you wanted to be was eighteen again. When you were eighteen, all you wanted to be was six.
How about you stop wishing you were another age and live your life? Seriously. Youth is one of the biggest blessings a person can get. This is the time to make mistakes. You hear this from your parents, but don't be afraid to make mistakes. Take risks. Have fun. Go up to that cute guy in your class and actually talk to him. What is taking you so long?
Skip some nights going out and do a face mask with your roommate. Strike a conversation with someone random on the elevator. Use that extra meal on the guy in front of you- you may end up being friends.
The most important thing you can do is to be spontaneous. Not everyone is like this, I get it. But within the next decade, there is a chance you'll be hitched with kids. You will have to lose that spontaneous side. Plan a road trip with your best friends and stay at cheap places. You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a good time. If you do have the money, randomly blow it on a music festival. It is worth every penny. Stay up all night with your friends and go on an adventure. Take a drive at 3 a.m., blasting music with your best friend without a final destination.
Just don't be stupid about it. If you really have a final at 8 a.m., don't go out the night before. But, if you get a text on a Monday night from a friend wanting to go somewhere, do it.
We're in college. We haven't quite hit the real world. In the real world, not having obligations every Friday doesn't happen. Being able to wake up at 1:30 every day, won't work with your 9-5 job. Take advantage of the fact that we are so young. Take a day off from all responsibilities and obligations because you can. No one is stopping you.
Last but not least, save your memories. I'm not talking about having an epic Snapchat story. I'm also not talking about taking a picture for the Insta. I'm talking about really saving your memories. Download a printing app. Print a bunch of pictures from your phone so when you have grand kids, you can really look back at your memories. You may not remember what picture broke 100 likes on Instagram, but when you see the picture, you may remember how much fun you had that night.
Write your adventurous nights down. I have tried so many times to write in a journal every year and I fail miserably. If journaling isn't your thing, make a memory jar every year. You write down small memories and read it every year. Even something like, "Kaitlyn and I went to Seasons. We talked for ten minutes in the bathroom and then found a girl sleeping in the stall behind us. Awesome night." Write a date on your notes. Save the jar. When you are 50 years old, reading these memories, will make you happy.
You want to remember your youth. You will miss it. This whole article may sound like a message from every Taylor Swift song, but embrace being young. Be spontaneous. Go on an adventure. Just have fun.
