After finalizing my AP Studio Art portfolio and sending them to my teacher, I thought I was done with art — for that school year, at least. But I was wrong. My class was presented with another (but final) assignment for the year: to create an imaginary friend inspired by the artist JooYoung Choi's creations. I have to be honest in that I wasn't ready to take on another project, especially since I wanted to focus on studying for my other classes, but after finishing my imaginary friend this weekend, I realized that I'd had quite a lot of fun making her. Sure, it took me hours drafting then creating her, but I think that it was worth it.
I mean, come on, isn't this little thing so cute?
I'm not sure what she is exactly, but I'm calling this little mushroom monster Miu for now because she loves flowers, and mushrooms grow out of her head whenever she's feeling especially cheery. She takes in all your melancholy feelings and lets her flowers grow with them, just how the sadness never lasts and eventually people bounce back from that dark time of life.
There were a few processes I went through in making Miu.
After drafting her concept on paper, I scoured through all the materials I had, picking out a few I decided would suit her best.
From there, I began to embroider and sew and do more sewing.
And then, Miu finally came alive with her smile and everything.
I encourage you to create your own imaginary friend because even though we all might be a little too old to have imaginary friends, this little Miu really did take the majority of my stress and negative feelings away.
