The night of November 7th, I was lucky enough to attended Hillary Clinton's campaign rally at Independence Hall. Myself, along with forty thousand other supporters stood waiting to hear her speak. At the rally, the atmosphere of the crowd was indescribable. I have never experienced anything like it in my entire life. Everyone around me was nothing but kind and friendly toward one another. Standing in that crowd, I admire everyone who supported Hillary and I was so proud I was able to be apart of something so gentle and friendly. Now that Hillary has lost, that feeling of pride has slowly slide away because those who stood beside me smiling singing "Livin' On A Prayer", are now burning American Flags and protesting down Broad Street. I am still with her, but definitely not like this.
Living on Broad Street, I have seen quite a few things since I moved here in August. I never expected Hillary Clinton supporters to be marching down Broad street with so much hate laced in their voices. I never expected to see so many cop cars and policemen on bikes following Clinton supporters to make sure of no violence or harm to someone else's property. We need to stand with each other and support one another. We lost a tough battle but that is nothing to be ashamed of.
Hillary's slogan throughout the campaign was "Stronger Together." Now, we are far from together. Those people who I was so excited to be surrounded by last Monday night now scare me just days later. What happened with the election happened. Donald Trump won and although we do not agree with him, we need to come together especially now to move forward. How can we do that with so much hate in our hearts and resentment for others? We are lucky enough to have the ability to vote for our leader AND to have freedom of speech. We have displayed such grace and poise throughout the entire election. Why should we throw it away now? We need to still be with her, but we need to remember that we are better than this.
