Hundreds upon hundreds of people gathered Wednesday night in Legion field for one person. All of these people gathered for one name -- Jesus. The Passion City Church decided that UGA needed a spark after everything that had happened this year. First, the Passion City band opened in music, which was followed with a sermon by lead pastor Louie Giglio. While students comprised the majority of the crowd, there were two special families there. Two of the families from the fatal car crash in April were present wearing 'All Dawgs Go To Heaven' shirts. Giglio brought special attention to these families and lead the crowd in prayer for them and their continued healing. This wasn't even the best part of the night, however, as Giglio had stated earlier, "If this moment isn't solely about Jesus, then it's just an event; but when it becomes about him, then it's an encounter."
The crowd, band, and Louie himself ensured that this was not just another UGA event. The presence of Jesus was felt by every single individual present that night. Louie's sermon was absolutely beautiful with such a powerful message that I believe too many people have a tendency to forget: "There's a difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus." This message was so impactful because it reminds us that while we may know all of the facts, we don't always know our savior and that's such a huge difference. How are we supposed to spread the word of God when all we know are Bible stories? No offense, but while the story of David and Goliath is amazing, what person who is unsure of their relationship with God is going to find strength in that story. They will, however, find strength in your personal story of struggle and help from Our Savior. Once you make God more personal, it's so much easier for people to make the switch. Another powerful quote from Giglio that sums up his message, "People with information don't change the world. People with revelation change the world." Knowing all of the facts can only help you so much, but until you really get to know Our Lord and Savior nothing can really be done to help those who need him in their life.
The service was then concluded with a group prayer in which everyone in attendance got down on their knees and really prayed for themselves, the people around them, and the campus. This was what really made the night so remarkable. The view of all of the audience down on two knees worshipping one name. After this moment, you could just tell that the crowd was visibly shaken. You could feel a difference in the air as people felt a very real encounter with their Savior. Two more praise songs followed and I have never felt such powerful praise before. Everyone felt Him and they were determined to let him know how much they worshipped Him. It was remarkable.
