There are always posts on social media from high school and college kids alike, stating that this summer has been completely boring. Excuse my not having sympathy, but between homework from summer classes and working 5 days a week, I'd love to be bored.
Instead of spending all your time inside binge watching OITNB or whatever other new show/season is on, maybe go outside? If you're in PA, a nice summer day is hard to come by. Don't take the nice weather for granted-go outside! Read a book, go swimming, go hiking, or just sit out in the sun (but don't forget your SPF!)
The things to do this summer are endless, and a list wouldn't even begin to cover the things you could be doing. So before you use 20 seconds to update your Facebook status to "I'm so bored," maybe use that 20 seconds to think of something to do. Here is a very small list of just some of the things you could do:
1. Wash your car
2. Work
3. Read a book, or two, or three (no one is stopping you)
4. Go for a walk
5. Roadtrip
Summer, especially if you're a college student, is supposed to be a break. If you're complaining that you're bored now, just think of the pile of assignments and exams and projects that are less than three months away.
I get that most people don't go on extravagant vacations, myself included, but that doesn't mean you can't have a good time. The 5 things listed above are quick things to spend a few days on, however there are millions of things to do. Don't expect to not be bored when all you want to do is lay in bed and watch TV (no matter how nice that sounds).
So instead of wallowing in your boredom this summer, take a page out of Thoreau's book: “I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life.” Maybe if you're bored enough, you could even read it!
