If You Could See Yourself Through My Eyes

A letter to my best friends.

Dear Beautiful Girl,

Wow, if you could see yourself through my eyes you would never doubt or question yourself again. You would see how sad my life would be if you had never walked into it, and you would recognize how much I, and so many others, need you. You would love you as much as I LOVE YOU. You would see how worthy you are of love, appreciation, respect and everything that this world has to offer you. You would see how absolutely and truly amazing you are. You would recognize how much better of a place you make this world, how you truly light up every room that you walk into, and how much people genuinely love you. You would see how many lives you impact, how many people look up to and admire you, and how many people are motivated, encouraged and inspired by you. You would recognize how many people are drawn to you for all of the kindness that radiates from you.

You would never settle again, because you would recognize how worthy you are and how much more that you deserve than what you have been accepting. You would never spend another minute worrying about not finding “the one,” you would quit entertaining your ex or the boy who refuses to commit to you, because you would realize that the man you are supposed to be with will recognize and know how amazing the girl is that he has in front of him. You would stop doubting that you will never find him, because you would see that you are the girl that real men ask God to send them, and you would see that God is saving a super special man just for you.

You would never pass up that second slice of pizza or skip dessert again, because you would realize that your heart will always be the biggest thing about you. You would recognize that no matter what the scale says that it does not represent your inner beauty nor does it take away from your outer beauty. You wouldn’t be so hard on yourself anymore. You would start recognizing your own outer beauty like you recognize the outer beauty of others. You would quit comparing yourself to those around you that you think are prettier, skinnier, smarter, nicer, or have their life more together than you do. You would see that there is no one prettier, smarter, or kinder than you. That eventually you will get your life together and that one day everything will be as perfect as you wish it was right now. You would recognize how many people around you wish that they were you or that they attained the characteristics that you do. You would see how special you are and how much you truly bring to the table.

You would quit feeling defeated by that exam, that midterm and that research paper, because you would realize that the grade you make on any of those isn’t what defines you, that your weight isn’t what defines you, that his inability to see your worth isn’t what defines you, and you would start seeing that what defines you is your heart, your personality, how you treat those around you, your good deeds that you do ALL OF THE TIME, your faith, your friendships, your love for others, your love for yourself and the super sweet, special, genuine, kind-hearted, loving, hilarious girl that you are is what defines you.

You would see that you are the strongest, most genuine, kindest, most beautiful, worthy, loving, giving, best girl around if you could just see yourself through my eyes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
