Will We Ever Stop Needlessly Hating?

The world is all ready in chaos, can't we find peace?

Will We Ever Stop Needlessly Hating?
Tom Lee

With everything being so chaotic in the past year I feel that now is finally a good time to slow down and just relax for a minute and reflect. No, not reflect on the past year in a worldly sense but rather reflect on yourself and who you are and who you've become.

The past year has certainly taken a toll on all of us whether we've realized it or not. I'm sure many of us have lost pieces of ourselves, friends, and family members. So let's slow down for a minute and think about ourselves. Take this moment and be a little selfish. It's all right every once in a while.

The world changes rapidly and that speed only seems to increase by the day and with it, we also change. Sometimes it may seem like it is changing too fast and we aren't enough anymore. Maybe it feels as though you aren't the person you want to be, expected to be, or that others feel you should be and you need to be told that it is okay.

Nothing ever truly comes to fruition the way we think it will, not exactly anyway. We're all here nonetheless and that's what matters. All that truly matters is that you are here and not the idea of who you are supposed to be in other's eyes. You are here and you matter.

The only advice to really offer in today's time is to keep your chin up, don't give in no matter what they say, and above all else be kind. You never know what it could mean to someone when you are kind, even if it's something you think may be stupid such as letting someone over on the road, holding a door open, or helping someone carry something.

It's important to show people kindness now and always. We all could use some help every now and then, why not be that person who stands up when someone asks for help.

The years ahead are only going to get rougher and we, as a generation and as a people, are going to need each other more than ever. Which sounds difficult in a society that seems to enjoy ripping each other apart, criticizing each other's every move. Eventually, we have to realize when enough is enough, don't we?

In the coming weeks leading up to 2018, why not try to better ourselves?

Start small.

It really is a lot more simple than people make it seem. We tend to get annoyed when people beg for our money. Even if it's a man dressed as Khris Kringle ringing a bell asking for just your change. With the devastation over the past year can we not afford the charity?

This world is falling apart. It always is but we can change it can't we? Even if we all have different beliefs over laws in our country can't we all agree that we should help people? That we should donate to help with the red cross? They really could use the help even if it's just a few coins.

I feel like we need to try harder to end this widespread hate that divides us. Sure, it will take time but the sooner we start the sooner things may start getting better for all of us.

Maybe I don't understand, though. I'm not someone who grew up somewhere dangerous where it felt like everyone I met had something against me. But I did grow up in this messed up world that hates us all equally. I'm just determined to turn that hatred I've received into something that can help others.

I'm done with all of the needless hate, are you?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
