As I sit here in the University radio station listening to the top of the hour news broadcast, chills consume my whole body. The news is filled with nothing but negativity.
Since everyone feels indifferent about the whole National Anthem controversy, I am going to go ahead and exercise my first amendment right to freedom of speech. That seems to be everyone's excuse for disrespecting our country so I feel it can be my excuse for writing about a topic that is also quite controversial.
Why is it that when a mass shooting or a protest happens, America falls deeper and deeper apart instead of coming together? I now know why my parents were so hesitant on letting me go places; people are crazy.
Everybody wants to blame everyone else. I am not a bad person because of my beliefs. Just like you're not a bad person because of yours. However, learn to respect my opinion.
I have a little bit of a reality check for some people. You're not changing the world by going on a rant on Facebook. You're not helping the world by un-peacefully protesting literally everything. Because if we are being honest here, everyone is too sensitive in today's society and they end up butthurt about anything and everything.
How come you will get on a plane to go on vacation and put your entire life in the hands of a pilot you've never met before but you can't give the president of your country even the slightest chance at being successful? Just think about that for a second.
I am most definitely not the most knowledgeable when it comes to politics and controversial topics. However, I am knowledgeable on what is right and what is wrong. It is wrong to destroy parts of America because you cannot respect someone else's opinion. It is wrong to go on a shooting rampage and the very first thought be, "gun laws." The right thing to do in that situation is to help everyone that was impacted by the incident. America needs help and it needs help from its people.
I was very young the day the world almost stopped turning for America. However, almost every person I have asked has told me that America had never been closer than after the tragic September 11th attacks.
After that day, there was no violence between American's. America had gone silent. That was until we decided something needed to be done and that we would not let anybody or anything ruin our great country. People helped each other out. People risked their lives to help complete strangers. America was whole. America was what it should always be.
Today, terrorist attacks occur in the most devastating times and ways. Why can't America come together to fight against it like we did after 9/11? The hatred needs to stop. The unsympathetic acts towards the history of America need to end. We need to start becoming whole and uniting to make America a country worth living in. A country that I can have kids and grandkids in and not worry about their safety and well-being. A country that we are ALL proud to live in.
