We all have those major regrets

Top 3 Things I Wish I Did Differently This Semester

As a first semester freshman at college, we all have those situations that occur that we wish we could've done better. Although I had an amazing introduction to life at college, I feel like I have learned from my past experiences and I am ready to improve on these things during the upcoming semester.

1. Spending habits

"How in the world..."

These were my exact words as I checked my bank account after checking my bank account over Thanksgiving break. I thought that I'd alotted the perfect amount of money transferred that would take me through and leave me leftover after my first semester.

To my surprise, the $11 left in my bank account was quite the surprise. This semester, I never truly realized how much I was really spending. I was confused looking at the current balance because seriously...where did all of the money go? The most famous answer to this question continued with me. Food.

Despite my parents paying for my meal plan, I still found myself at Chipotle and other restaurants 2-3 times a week. This absolutely drained my bank account in the most unnecessary way. Although it was slightly heart-wrenching seeing my balance, I now know how to properly budget myself this time around. A big tip...Use your meal plan!!

2. Unhealthy habits

On those late nights studying until 1 am, what can be better than a snack...or two...I always found myself snacking even when I am really not that hungry. It truly helps the studying, but really is not the best move, especially in college.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a little snacking, but if it becomes as excessive as I was, I realized I definitely needed to make some changes. This semester I aim to put my snacks ABOVE my bed so I really can't reach them. This will help me in the long run for sure.

I also began to invest in Veggie Chips, a healthy snack that won't affect my health.

3. Taking care of myself

As a first-year freshman, there is nothing worse than managing your priorities. Between going out, hanging out with friends, doing school work, and taking care of yourself, there is nothing more difficult than keeping these things in check. I found myself sick throughout much of this semester with an ongoing cold, brought on by a lack of sleep and rest.

Here at Syracuse where many people find themselves going out every weekend, it is hard to resist the FOMO. I found myself in these situations almost every weekend, and it wasn't until my parents talked to me that I realized I had to make a change.

This upcoming semester I aim to manage my sleep schedule so I don't find myself in the situation being sick ALL THE TIME. I have already begun to implement this in my life and honestly, I am doing so much better already.

Reflecting on past experiences can be extremely useful. Learn from my mistakes. I promise it will pay off in the end.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
