One of the most famous phrases to ever come out about sex is “Netflix and chill.” Netflix is also very famous for having one of the best TV shows of all time on their roster, “The Office.” It always seems like Netflix has the edge as the best place to stream your favorite movies or TV shows. There is one big problem though, Hulu exists. While Hulu may not have that cool catchphrase or even have “The Office” on their list of shows to stream, let me explain to you why Hulu is the place you should be spending your money.
To start, we have to talk about Netflix. I was a long time Netflix user. It really hooked me knowing that I could watch a lot of my favorite TV shows whenever or however I wanted. I binge watched “The Office,” “Family Guy,” “Parks And Recreation,” and “Friends” for years and never even thought about switching services. But alas, the prices at Netflix started to crawl up each and every year, going from $7.99 all the way up to $12.99. Netflix kept adding “Netflix Original Series” and started getting rid of fan-favorite TV shows like “Family Guy.” While these originals are pretty good, I feel like I originally bought Netflix to pay for TV shows that were already established. If I wanted to see new series, I would pay for an HBO subscription. So I started to look around for something better.
I finally looked at Hulu to see if they could better fit my needs. Hulu charges $7.99 per month with ads for their streaming services. This price almost cut the price of Netflix's in half so I was intrigued. Netflix had just recently gotten rid of “Family Guy” as well, so when I saw that Hulu had “Family Guy,” and that they were adding new shows every week, I was hooked.
Hulu opened a new world of streaming for me.
Hulu tends to add new shows a day after they came out on TV. Of course, Netflix has never done this so I was in for a pleasant surprise.
Hulu also has a bunch of newer TV shows that Netflix can’t offer. I’ve never heard of “Parenthood” or “This Is Us” until Hulu showed me. I binge watched both of these shows and they’re insanely good. Shows like “Roseanne” and “Splitting Up Together” come on every week and Hulu allows me to watch these new shows a day after they come out. Netflix has never treated their customers like this, and I am very appreciative towards Hulu for it.
The only thing that might scare people away from Hulu are the ads. For $7.99 you get Hulu, but it comes with ads. This doesn’t really bother me because there aren’t that many ads, and it feels like I’m watching cable so I like it. You would just have to pay a few extra dollars a month to stream with no ads. Hulu also has services that include HBO or Showtime for an additional price. While this isn’t quite my cup of tea, it could benefit you if you like those networks.
Overall, I’ve been a subscriber to Hulu for a few months now. After just a few months of Hulu, I have already decided that Hulu beats out Netflix. I wish that Hulu had shows like “The Office” and “Friends,” but they make up for it by having newer TV shows. If you haven’t checked out Hulu, give it a look. It might save you some money, and give you a broader scope of TV shows.
