How's My Hair: Sexism In The Olympics

Because looks and relationship status are far more important in the Olympics than a medal for women.

The Olympics are a great tradition that comes around every few years that we can enjoy across the world, and the equal coverage of men women across the world is something we can all enjoy together.

Here's a few of the instances we've all been able to enjoy together while questioning the right hairstyle for the next we compete for a medal in the Olympics.

1. Alexa Moreno

We all know that being just under a hundred pounds is completely healthy, right? Luckily, people were quick to point it out on social media that people should watch their weight more. Of course, this is keeping in mind that 99 pounds is on the low end of healthy for this amazing gymnast's height.

Because the media's first focus for all genders is their weight instead of their skill, right?

2. The Women's American Gymnastics Team

Simone Biles, Gabrielle Douglas, Aly Raisman, Madison Kocian, and Lauren Hernandez all were understandably excited when Simon Biles came to talk about her amazing beam routine while waiting for scores. The NBC reporter felt the need to comment that they looked like they belonged in a mall because everyone knows a woman can only be happy at a mall and not after doing an astounding performance on an international stage.

3. Venus and Serena Williams

Andy Murray won another gold medal in tennis singles this year, and the reporter commented that "You're the first person to ever win two Olympic tennis gold medals, that's an extraordinary feat, isn't it?" Of course it's an amazing feat!

And Serena and Venus Williams have won four, which can't seem to compare.

4. He Zi

He Zi performed in the springboard portion of the Olympics and came in silver. An amazing feat for an athlete who worked all her life to win a medal in the Olympics. It couldn't compare to the proposal that followed though, could it?

5. Corey Cogdell-Unrein

Because a bronze medal in trap shooting for this woman couldn't compare to the fact that she was married to a bear's linemen. Men's credit is always given with their spouse's name too though, right?

6. Katinka Hosszú

After setting a world record and completely out swimming all of her opponents, Katinka Hosszu couldn't have done better. All the credit had to go to her husband, just like all the credit of men's achievements goes to their wives.

The world has been able to enjoy these moments together. The moments where an athlete's looks or marriage status is far more important than anything else to the people that are watching and not the fact that these women are role models. Their looks are all that are important.

And we cover the men the exact same way, right?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
