How You Know You Have Found Your Soul Sister

How You Know You Have Found Your Soul Sister

Ladies, we all have had friends who have come in and out of our lives. The friends you meet and hit it off on the beginning, but then fizzle out within a couple months, or the friend you were best friends with until high school. However, there comes a time in your life when that one friend sticks through it all. She stays through the death in the family, the breakup, the stress that comes with life, and the new adventures life brings. If you are reading this and can think of that one lady in your life who has stuck through the good and bad times in your life, you, my friend, have found your soul sister.

My soul sister is Haley Gideon. She lives in my hometown, Lewiston. I met her in the eighth grade, which was my first year in a public school. I knew nobody in my grade, and I just felt alone in the beginning. It only took a couple of weeks for Haley and I to start talking; I just felt in my heart that Haley was going to be in my life for a long time. The great conversations we had and the same goals for our future, I knew she would be my best friend. As of recently, I realized that Haley is not my best friend anymore but my soul sister. She is one of the few friends from high school I still talk to; she was there for me when I was homesick in the beginning of my first semester of college, and when I was stressed about my first college exam. I was there for her when she moved five hours away from home, and I am still there for her when she feels homesick. We are still there for each other even if we are over one hundred miles away from one another. Although we do not get to FaceTime as much as we both would like to, whenever we do get the chance, the straight six hour call makes up for lost time.

A soul sister and a best friend are a little different, in my opinion. A best friend shares the same interests with you, is there when you need a shoulder to cry on, and is like a sister to you. However, a soul sister is someone who empathizes with you, someone who not only gives a shoulder to cry on, but also cries with you, someone who understands your problems because she likely has the same ones, and is someone who is honest with you, even if you don’t want to hear the truth.

Everyone needs that one person in life who gives you life-advice, who is willing to come over to your house and watch corny romantic comedies when you’re feeling sad, and who is there when nobody else is.

Haley, I am sure you’re crying right now as you are reading this, but woman, never forget that you are

my soul sister.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
