I think we’ve all had those days where we just want to take a cool-down nap, cuddle up with a blanket, and dream about ripping someone who you think wronged you into thousands of pieces.

Aside from that, there is really no other way around it — those situations simply suck.

But what can we do about it? If someone pissed you off in class, at the office, or even at home, do you have the right to hand their ass back to them?

Even though it’s hard to say, I don’t think we do.

I don’t want to be your mom and tell you how you should act, but I’ll tell you what I would do.

1. Even though it’s hard, just be the bigger person and let it go.

If the other person insists on bringing up whatever it is that is an issue, just do your best to hold your head high and feel bad for that person who is stuck in the past. Mentally block them if you have to. Those block things from “Black Mirror” would come in handy...

2. Try to de-escalate the situation.

I know the average person isn’t always the best negotiator — I know I’m not — but do your best to try to limit their asshole actions toward you and try to see why they feel the need to be that way. I think most people result to the actions without taking into account other options first. Don’t try to hand it back as that will only do the opposite of de-escalate the problem.

3. Call them out.

I think this is the hardest thing. I know it would be for me. But just say something to them like, “Hey, Alex, what’s up with your attitude?” Just make sure you’re not calling them out in a jerkish way. That just puts us back at the start.

So when is it OK to be a jerk to someone? As hard as it is, I really think the answer should be never.

Just be nice.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
