For those of you who don't know, "Adulting" is a fairly new term coined by this generation's young adults who maybe aren't ready to be adults and have to do adult things anyway. If you balanced your check book, you're adulting. If you made dinner for yourself, you're adulting. If you scheduled your own doctor's appointments, you're adulting. Get it? Good! I know that adulting is terrifying and just plain annoying, but we can get through this. I mean, we have to be adults for the rest of our lives, right?
Life can get hectic and I know sometimes I even have Siri remind me to text someone or to take my vitamins at a certain time. This is where making a schedule comes in. It may sound crazy, but if you just aren't great with your time management, making a schedule for the week is the smart thing to do. You can buy a notebook that has a schedule, or create one online, or just get a plain sheet of paper and make one yourself. Just jot down the times and what you have to do for each hour or so. Remember to schedule yourself some breaks in between because your mental wellbeing is important too.
Speaking of reminders, invest in a planner. (You'll probably end up in Target and come out with things you probably didn't need, but PLEASE come out with a planner too). I buy one every year and it's a life saver. I don't like to rely on my phone to plan out things. I like to write things down and physically see it on paper. I love the excitement of picking out a fresh planner because not only do I love being organized, but a bright, eye catching planner makes me happy and boosts my mood. If I want to know what I'm doing for the week, I just have to turn to that page and voila! I can see my plans. Doctor's appointment? Check! My TV show is on tonight? Great!
While it's great to be organized and prepared, it's also nice to celebrate your successes, no matter how big or small! Life can be so overwhelming where you just want to crawl into a ball on the couch and not talk to anyone or do anything. Don't let yourself get that way too much. Ok, so you're having a bad day or a bad week, but try to find the positive things. Maybe you have a boss who's not the nicest, but they complimented you on your work. Maybe you ate three meals today instead of one and multiple cups of coffee. Maybe you finally got that promotion you always wanted!
We have to find ways to enjoy life and to enjoy being a grown person with responsibilities. So, always be prepared, keep your mind sharp, try to become a more organized person, and don't be be afraid to pat yourself on the back for the minor things. You will thank yourself.
