The Wonderful Life Of A Writer

A look inside a writer's mind

The Wonderful Life Of A Writer
Andrew Neel

I was on the bus, inching closer and closer to my Friday fashion design class. Running on about, well, 30 minutes of sleep, my mind began to wander—when I then learned how much I wanted to document my life as a fashion student.

The positives, the negatives, and mostly—the very, very little sleep. I took out my phone, opened my Notes app, and began listing words like “the life of a fashion major”, “the rewarding factors of exhaustion”, and even “the depleting sleep schedule of a college student”.

While adding to the current 600+ notes on my phone, I began to realize that most of these notes are writing ideas.

I would definitely say that the mind of a writer never stops. I find myself going through crazy life situations, similar to the one on the bus, where I recognize that these are just more ideas for my upcoming journals. Whenever encountering new life situations, I recognize that there are positives to everything, as I can simply learn lessons and write about them.

From about sixth grade, when I became obsessed with writing, I found myself thinking of life constantly as a glass half full. As I would lay by the lake during the summer with my pen, paper, and books, I would reflect on my life—understanding that every negative in my life can turn to a positive.

Over the years, I find myself turning my bad days into lessons, and putting my thoughts in my articles for other to be able to learn from and reflect on. If I can put my thoughts into words, and lessons into articles to help others, there is no way I could ever think of my glass as half empty—at all.

Being a writer opens doors to so many things.

It allows you to venture out of your comfort zone, knowing that whether things go amazing or poorly, you always have the ability to reflect on your experiences through writing. I must say, one of my favorite things to do upon return from vacations is sit down in a nearby coffee shop, and let my thoughts fly onto the pages of my articles.

There is something so rewarding about creating content that you know will remain forever, always allowing you to go back and reflect on the various situations you have encountered.

As I got off the bus and entered that fashion class, I found all of my energy surrounding the sewing machines—beginning to think of my upcoming articles as my life as a fashion design major develops. As I am constantly using my life experiences to brainstorm upcoming writing content, I have been able to look closer at what goes on in my life, and fully appreciate all aspects of it.

I would definitely say the constant thoughts of a writer never stops, yet I would also say that I would never want them to.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
