How to Train a Ferret?

Some of the training techniques listed below will help you train your pet.

oBasic Disciplinary Training

Make your ferret learn basic etiquette and discipline so that can behave nicely in front of others as well as do not create a mess around the house. Basic disciplinary training involves not doing something wrong, obey your commands, and behave nicely.

The best way to let him understand what not to do is scruffing. It also prevents ferret biting. To scruff, your ferret holds him from neck and say "NO" in a loud voice. Ferrets are so intelligent that they learn and picks things quickly.

But in case he still does not hear your commands then you can apply a "time out" rule on your pet. For this, you have to keep in the cage alone for 5 minutes. As ferrets do not like to be alone, so this trick works perfectly.

oTrain him to Come to You when Called

The best way to train your ferret to come to you whenever you call him by separating one ferret from the other. The separation here means to isolate them from each other only for some time or at the time of training. Because in this training you have to focus on each ferret so individual training works.

The next step is holding a treat in your hand and call his name to come to you and take it from you. Initially start with a smaller distance and after some time you can increase the distance between you and your pet. This trick will be helpful in quick learning.

oLitter Training and to Keep the Cage Clean

The essential part of ferret training is litter training because you do not want your house to smell bad. Even if the cage is not clean it can spread a bad odor in your house. So, litter training is a must to include in ferret training. It is one of the hardest parts of the training because you have to wake up early in the morning before your ferret wakes up.

As soon as your ferret wakes up put him in the litter box and make him understand to use it. Repeat this process for few days or for some time until he understands that the purpose of the litter box. Once he used the litter box reward him with his favorite treat. So, that he understands the importance of this box.

As soon as he uses the litter box remove the box out of the cage to avoid any accident. In case, an accident occurs clean the cage instantly and never punishes your ferret.

oNot Bite you Training

Ferrets can easily get irritated or scared and in response, they can bite you. Sometimes while playing they can even bite unknowingly. To avoid this, stop your ferret from biting you and to get harmed it is important to train him not to bite.

When you feel like he attacked you say "no" in a louder voice and put him in the cage alone and let him be there for some time. It will make him understand what he did is wrong and he is not allowed to bite his owner or anyone.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
