The holiday season is upon us and Christmas will be here before we know it. The holiday season is a time to spend with friends and family and to be thankful for what we have.
Different cultures have different traditions when it comes to the holiday season and it's a beautiful thing to see! It's really eye-opening to see what other people do year after year for the holiday season.
I have compiled a list of tips that will help guide you in your first (and hopefully not your last) Hispanic Christmas!
Bring your own car.
Don't be surprised if the party goes on longer than 4 a.m. In order to avoid having to depend on a ride home, always bring your own car!
Say hi to EVERYONE!
Now this is a MUST. Make sure you greet everyone!
Always ask if there is anything you can do to help.
This is just something that should be done regardless of where you're at, but it is customary in a Hispanic household.
If they say the party starts at 5 p.m., it actually starts at 6 p.m.
The party never really starts at the time they say it will start, so unless you want to be the first one there, being fashionably late (30-45 minutes) is acceptable.
Ask if there is anything you should bring.
They will most likely say you don't have to worry about bringing anything in, but it's always nice to ask.
Before you leave, say bye to EVERYONE!
This is the same as saying hi to everyone. It's also important to make sure you say thanks for the invitation!
If they serve tamales, just remember to not eat the corn husk.
The corn husk just holds the tamale together, make sure you don't eat it or you'll never live it down!
If you've been to a Hispanic party, YOU KNOW! Hopefully, some of these either help you or, at the very least, give you a laugh if you know what I mean!
Happy Holidays and Feliz Navidad!
