Much too often I find that what I desire for my life, may not be the same as God’s desire. I fail to remember that God can see the whole picture, while I am only able to see what is right in of me. In the same way, many Christians tend to settle for less in their lives, because they are unable to have faith that God has a bigger plan than their own. Yet, I propose that we as Christians never settle for less ever again.
Jeremiah 29:11-13
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (NIV)
John 15:7
7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (NIV)
You may or may not have heard this before, but I am here to tell you that God only wants the best for you. He says it so many times in the Bible and these verses above are just a few examples. However, there is just one large detail that most Christians like to skip over. The Bible says multiple times to seek God with our whole hearts. That means with everything we have, giving God our past, our present and our future. Then, and only then, He will give us the desires of our hearts.
Now, you may be wondering. Why can’t He just give me the desires of my heart now, and then I can seek Him after? Well, when we seek God with our whole hearts, He gradually begins to change us from the inside out. Little by little we begin to see things in His perspective. For example, when you begin to seek God, that job that you wanted for years may not seem so important anymore, because you realize that God had one prepared for you that was much better. You see, when we start seeking God, we start seeing our struggles, our lives, and our relationships in God’s perspective. God does not want us to settle for less, but when we do not seek His presence in our lives, we are settling right then and there.
Everyone has an area in their life where they begin to wonder if they deserve better, whether it be a job, a relationship or a lifestyle. Let me tell you this, the second you wonder if you deserve better, you do. If you are not searching for God with your whole heart, you already deserve better and God is waiting to give it to you. Start today, and watch your live change, little by little.
Psalm 37:4
Take delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.
