How To Start Your New Year’s AND New Decade Off Right

In This Article:

So it's finally the end of a seemingly endless year and decade! Wow, we made it. However, there's a lot of baggage that needs to be left behind as we advance to the new year. It's time to make 2020 the year of growth, healing, and success. Here's a few steps you can take to start the year with positive energy.

Purge All Apps You Don't Use On Your Phone And All Unnecessary Pictures

I had so many unused apps cluttering my phone, and after I deleted them, my conscience eased. Once you are done with your purge, it's of utmost importance to organize all your apps. You can choose to group them together by similarity or color code them for an aesthetically pleasing viewing experience. After that, it's time to move on to the dreaded "Spring Cleaning" of your photos. I would set out a few hours dedicated to traversing the depths of your photos app, and deleting unimportant images/videos that are using up storage on your phone. You can also choose to use albums to further organize your photos by category. There is nothing better than opening up a completely organized phone because, let's be real, you spend a large portion of your day using it.

Purge Your Email and Unsubscribe From Email Lists

If you thought deleting/organizing your apps and photos was laborious, get ready for the real kicker. Unless you've recently spent hours going through your email and sorting through the clutter, it's high time you do. The first thing you should do is go to the end of your inbox and work backwards. Start deleting unread emails by companies up until a month from today. If you no longer want to receive emails from a company, open up an email by them, scroll to the bottom, and click "unsubscribe." This will bring you to a new tab where you can un-check all emailing boxes or check "unsubscribe from all lists" if they have more than one. Seeing the notifications on my email drop to a low number was unbelievably heartwarming, and now my mind is further at ease.

Purge Toxic Friendships

Wow, it's almost as if this list is increasing in difficulty. I cannot stress this enough: if you are currently fighting with a friend over a prolonged period of time or they say things that consistently make you unhappy, drop them. They aren't worth what you have to offer. It's time for new friends in 2020 that will hype you up and support you 100%. Real friends forgive, and they know the friendship is worth more than a petty argument. I encourage you to talk to somebody new or old and make plans with them. You'll know when you find a lifelong friend, and there's nothing better than that feeling of deep-rooted acceptance.

Purge Your Unused Belongings

It's got to go. Whatever came to your mind when first read this title, it's time to say goodbye to it. There are plenty of thrift shops and consignment shops willing to take what is sitting and collecting dust in your house. Also, there are plenty of websites such as eBay, Craigslist, and Bonanza. If you're looking in the app department, there is Decluttr, Mercari, and Letgo. It's never been easier to sell or donate your unwanted items. I highly recommend using the KonMari Method to decide what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.

With all this purging and organizing, you'll come into 2020 with a positive and de-stressed mindset. Happy New Year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
