9 Little Victories That Seem Huge After You Begin To 'Adult'

Growing up can be scary, but we can all appreciate those little victories.

When you're an adult but not-quite-yet an adult, there are still little things that make you realize you're actually (very slowly) growing up. They're things we all experience, and when you do them for the first time, you've just gotta give yourself a little pat on the back. I've only been an "adult" for six months, but still, I've definitely experienced many of these moments.

1. Doing two loads of laundry in one week instead of trying to shove it all into one.

A tiny victory, yes, but this is you taking the adult road rather than being too lazy to just do two different loads.

2. Making a meal for your friends and dressing all fancy.

This is something you'll always see happening in movies and TV shows and it feels great the first time you actually do it.

3. Paying for dinner when you and your parents go out to eat.

Honestly, this feels like a huge victory because your parents have been paying for you for years and years. It feels amazing to finally be able to give back to them.

4. Paying your bills!

Okay, yes, paying bills kind of sucks, but it also means you're growing up! It shows that you can now provide for yourself, despite how sucky it makes life.

5. Getting into an argument with your significant other and NOT breaking up.

For many, this happens earlier in life, but for me, it has been a much more recent occurrence. Either way, it's a sign that you're growing up and realize that not everything is the end of the world.

6. Going to an interview and nailing it.

It's always an amazing feeling and it helps you realize that maybe you can get a job and someday truly do this adulting thing.

7. Breaking up with somebody in person.

A common courtesy, but in your younger years, it might have been too scary or seemed unnecessary. When you grow up, you begin to truly realize that whoever you're breaking up with deserves much more than just a text.

8. Going to a doctor's appointment alone.

As a kid when they ask what's wrong, you looked at a parent, expecting them to say it. Now, though, that's your job, which can be scary, but also a nice reminder that you're growing up.

9. Teaching someone else to "adult."

Really, who knows how to actually adult. Maybe the best motto is "fake it till you make it." Still, it feels nice to be able to give advice on adulting to a friend. It shows that you're really beginning to know what you're doing.

* * *

Everyone has to grow up someday, but when you're still pretty young, it might feel like it's moving pretty slowly. Cherish all these moments, though, because someday, you'll ACTUALLY be an adult and then these little victories could turn into big struggles.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
