1. Clean up your living space.
When the space you spend a lot of time in is neat and clean, it is easier to clear your mind and get things done. It’s easy to stay organized by creating a system, with a daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedule and setting aside a space for everything. If you don’t have a space for something, chances are you don’t need it.
2. Create a space that is specifically for work, and a space that is specifically for relaxing and winding down.
This can be hard in a dorm room or small apartment, but even in one room there are ways to create a separation of space. Knowing that an office or corner space is solely for the purpose of getting things done, and only using it to be productive sets a mood for the space and motivates productive work, and having a space where you never do work and only relax creates a more peaceful environment for the space.
3. Make a planner or bullet journal, and stick to it.
I find bullet journaling to be better for myself because it is 100% personalized and I can add in pages that I want to write or draw in even when I’m not planning out my week. Having something that keeps you coming back is key to remembering and sticking with your plans. If physical planners aren’t your style, using google calendar can help! You can set alarms and repeat events for however long you need all at the touch of a button!
4. Maintain time for self care.
Giving yourself time to think, or clear your mind and just relax is extremely beneficial to having an organized life. When you have time for yourself, you can refresh and renew and get in a mindset of organization. Not only will you literally have the time to keep your life together, you will also see that an overbook schedule causes more than a messy room, but also a messy mind.
5. Remember to forgive yourself.
While staying organized is the goal here, it isn’t always possible. It is essential to remember that things will get messy from time to time, and that’s okay! Don’t let it get you down, the time will come to get everything back into place, especially if you follow these steps and make time for yourself!
