How to Keep Readers on Your Blog Longer

Are you struggling to keep readers engaged on your blog? Sure, you have great content but you still wonder why most visitors leave after visiting a page or two.

Unfortunately, sometimes having great content just isn't enough. You need to do more if you want to keep your readers engaged so they'll stay longer.

Lost on how to decrease your bounce rate? Don't worry, we'll take a look at a few easy ways to keep readers on your blog longer.

Ready to find out? Let's go!

Include Internal Links

If you don't include these kinds of links within your posts already, you need to start today. Internal links are hyperlinks to other content within your site.

Using internal links is a great way to send readers to your other existing content. This way, they explore more of your site without having to do it themselves.

Although, you want to make sure the links you incorporate are relevant to the post. It doesn't make sense to write about fashion then include an internal link to a technology post you previously wrote.

Add Calls to Action

Otherwise known as CTAs, these are useful for telling your readers what you want them to do next. After reading your post, you can encourage them to share it by saying something along the lines of, "If you liked this post then be sure to share it on Pinterest!"

It's okay to be direct with your readers because if they really like the content you produce, they'll be more willing to support you in terms of sharing and linking to your posts. If you don't know what kind of CTA to put, ones that go to other posts will suffice.

Incorporate a Search Bar

Often overlooked, a search bar is another great way of directing visitors to your other content. After reading one post, they may not want to sift through your other content. That's why those looking for specific information rely on search bars.

It's a quick and easy way for readers to explore more of what you offer. That's also why it's important you try to incorporate some relevant keywords in your post. Most likely, visitors will use those keywords when searching on your site.

Have a Responsive Website

Nothing makes visitors leave quicker than a slow loading site. Who wants to wait for content that loads as slow as molasses? Honestly, no one!

To make sure your site is responsive, you want to make sure there are no walls of text, image file sizes are compressed, and there aren't too many design elements. An overcrowded website is not only unappealing but can really put a damper on your bounce rate.

Embrace white space as it'll bring attention to what matters most on your site---the content. Keep other design features such as live chat and pop-ups to a minimum.

If you don't have the time to make these changes yourself, it's wise to enlist the help of a web design company. They'll make sure your site isn't only responsive but beautifully designed.

Make Your Content Readable

Long walls of text aren't appealing on a website as they are in books. When it comes to consuming digital content, less is more.

For paragraphs, keep it short to about two to three sentences. As for sentences, keep them short as well. Writing should be what you can say in less words, not more.

Adding one or more of these tactics will ensure you start seeing your bounce rate decrease.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
