On August 5, 2020, the city of Beirut experienced a deadly explosion leaving over a hundred people dead and thousands injured. Officials claim that the explosion was caused by "2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored unsafely" (according to BBC News).
Since the explosion, there have been protests going on due to angry protesters feeling that the Lebanese government is corrupt and feeling that the government should have taken better precautions to avoid the explosion from happening. Since then, the Lebanese Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, has resigned from his position. Beirut, Lebanon is going through all of this with COVID-19 still spreading around its country.
