How To Have The Perfect Girl’s Crafting Night

Recently, my cousin, AKA my best friend, and I set aside a night to go crazy with crafts. At first, I was a little skeptical about giving up my Friday night to stay in and do silly arts and crafts but it turned out to be one of my favorite nights of summer.

I made a tri-fold with information on the organization I am involved in, Alpha Phi Omega. I also made something special for someone special but in case said person is reading this, I cannot spoil the surprise! My cousin made her APO Little a gift basket full of fun Big/Little decorated wine glasses, mugs, candies and more. We got so ~artsy~. Needless to say, it was amazing watching our artwork come to life. In the spirit of this magical night, I have decided to share with you some ways to have an amazing crafting night as well!

First, pick your squad.

Figure out who would be the best people with whom to craft. Is it your sorority sisters? Is it your best friend? Or, do you prefer to craft alone? There is no wrong way to go about your squad!

Second, check your bank account.

This may seem silly, but I am dead serious. I ended up spending over $80 on paint, brushes, stencils and stickers. Luckily, I’ll be getting paid back for everything used with the tri-fold, but most people are not as lucky. You will probably have to pay for all of your crafting supplies on your own so make sure you have the money! Plus, nothing ruins craft night more than waking up with a negative bank account balance the next day.

Third, wine.

Is it even a girl's night without wine? Don’t drink too much though -- you still have to be able to paint within the lines!

Fourth, remove all pets.

My nephew is an adorable Jack Russell Terrier named Duke. As cute as he is, it is not so cute when his paws are getting all over your project.

Fifth, organize your space.

Stickers on the left. Paint on the right. Newspaper down in case of messes. Nothing will make your craft night better than knowing that of your craft supplies are in order.

Sixth, have fun!

The point of crafting is to have fun and make something beautiful! So, let loose and relax! Don’t get stressed out over spilled milk (or in this case, spilled paint). I promise that if your red heart is a wee bit too small, it won’t be the end of the world. Whoever you are making it for (including yourself) will love and cherish it either way!

So, what exactly can/should you craft for? Well, summer is almost over, so craft for your dorm room/apartment. Make inspirational posters or string together pictures in a fun, cute way to hang on your wall. If it is right after rush season, do what my cousin did and make a fun basket for your future Big or Little. Is it just a normal Friday? Why not make yourself a fun pair of earrings? You deserve it after a long, relaxing summer!

There is never a wrong time to craft and there is especially never a wrong time for a girl’s crafting night. So, schedule one and have a ball. I promise you won't regret it. In the words of my cousin, “I want to apologize to all srat girls who I used to think were ridiculous for crafting so much, but now I understand so I'm sorry.”

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
