I'm really not the person to be telling you how bad procrastinating is; half the things I end up wanting to write end up in editing for days because I just keep putting things off.
But maybe since its a new week, we could all use a little nudge in the gut.
You know all those amazing things you have planned in your head that you want to do? Maybe it's a new art piece or that website you keep saying you're going to finish by the end of the month, which you started three months ago.
Getting organized can help you make them a reality. But how do I get organized?
1. Make a plan
How does a business start a project? The same way we do in school. Make a guideline on what you want to get done when and follow it!
This means labeling how much you're going to do in a certain increment of time. Planning things out week by week usually does the trick.
One of the ways I do this is by sticking things I want to get done on my walls, usually with sticky notes.
But what's the best way to maintain that plan?
2. Stay Ahead
And trust me, I know how gruelingly annoying it is to just know what's ahead in the syllabus for a class, let alone thinking ahead for anything else.
But think how much easier life will be when you no longer realize that it's Sunday at 1:00 a.m. and you had something due two hours ago. We've all had that happen. It's never fun.
3. Try to have fun with it
I know this one can be hard, especially if it's something related to school, but try to make whatever you're working on your own; give it your own little spin. Hopefully, the things you're working on ultimately have an end goal for something, i.e. working on editing for a final film project or making a portfolio website--you get the idea.
I stand by the fact that the most important thing is #2; I can't count on two fingers some of the things I missed out on simply because I didn't stay ahead. You end up getting do to a lot more and live stress-free.
I hate to be a mood-killer for the weekend, but it's still September; we all still have time to make those plans and make things happen.
*Friendly reminder they have planners at Rite Aid or Job Lots*
