Eating healthy is a concern for students going into the dorms and for ones now leaving the dorms that are trying to break their old habits.
If your dorm has a community kitchen I suggest you use it as frequently as possible. The more you cook your own food the better because you know every ingredient you are putting into your body. If you have a car do a big grocery run once a week and store all of your food in your mini fridge in the dorm. If not hopefully you can visit a grocery store nearby.
Make sure to fill up your dorm with healthy snacks. Instead of gummy candies, chips and processed ramen buy dried fruit, nuts, dark chocolate, hummus, nut butters and non-microwavable popcorn. I also suggest instant oatmeal if it is low in sugar. Energy bars are also great to have on the go to fuel yourself throughout the day.
If cooking is too hectic for your busy schedule find a healthy superfood cafe near you. Grabbing a smoothie, salad or veggie bowl will keep you feeling nourished and energized throughout the day. If you have an appetizing salad bar in your dining hall, you are lucky, take advantage of it.
Drop the sodas and drink flavored sparkling water to help your cravings. If you are craving sugary sweets it is okay to enjoy yourself and have some here and there, just don't make it a daily habit. If you are a Starbucks addict drinks coffee with no sugar or one pump of syrup. Stay away from frappuccinos because those are just wasted calories that give you no energy or satisfaction.
Drink your water, it is common to mistake hunger for thirst. Make sure to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Try to incorporate the gym or some type of physical exercise at least three times per week. Most colleges have fitness classes in the student gym such as spin, Zumba and yoga. Bring a friend after school and try a fun class.
