Being a part of a college makes you need to have a relative amount of social interactions. Whether it's interacting with people in one of your classes, meeting with some friends for dinner, or going out on the weekend with a group of friends, we have to interact with people every day. If you are anything like me, you like having some alone time to recharge from daily interactions. This especially occurs when you have multiple days around people or a particularly trying day where you are constantly surrounded by others. I tend to need a day (or two) to recharge and just hang out by myself or with a couple of close friends. Different activities (or lack thereof) that help me with such a social hangover tend to be quiet and low stress.
Symptoms of social hangovers include:
1.) Tiredness and fatigue
2.) Irritability
3.) Headache
4.) Overthinking about past social events
5.) Self doubt
Cures include:
1.) Comfort food
Nothing I like more than to bake myself some chocolate chip cookies. Pair this with a good movie and some pajamas and your set for a cozy, quiet night.
2.) A good book
Books have the power to take you anywhere you want to go. So decide what kind of adventure you want and immerse yourself in it, letting it take you somewhere new.
3.) Favorite music and maybe some dancing
Music can help with so many things, whether it be relaxing, energizing, or mood swaying. Pick some music that you know will get you and listen to your heart's content. Even add some dancing to it if that floats your boat.
4.) Binge watching a favorite show
Pick an old favorite or something new you have always wanted to give a try. I, for instance, love to watch Parks and Recreation when I just want to have some me time.
5.) Hanging out with a loved one
Just because you recharge best alone doesn’t mean you have to be completely alone. Some recharge best when surrounded by a particular loved one, maybe a best friend or a significant other. Their presence can make you feel more at ease, letting you charge back up.
