College is expensive, you have tuition, housing costs, textbooks - the list never ends! The days of your mom taking you back to school shopping are long gone! Now you have to buy your own back to school things! But even that adds up! From school supplies to clothes! Here are some tips on how to be savvy shopper in college! While still getting the cute clothes and back to school supplies!
1. Check the Dollar Store for school supplies!
Stores like 5 Below and Dollar General normally have a whole section of back to school supplies! You can get binders from $1-$3! Which is a great price considering you most likely will just buy new for the next semester! They also have things like pens and pencils for the same price! You can find things like binder clips, highlighters, even pencil pouches there. When comparing the price with staples you can save a lot of money!
2. Buy your cloths a year ahead!
When that season is ending, check out the sale racks! You can stock up for next year! For example, summer's ending so there are tons of sales on dresses, shorts, skirts, sandals. Sometimes they can up to 50% off. For seasons like Winter, having a new winter coat for next year is always a good idea! Especially with how expensive they are!
3. Check out resale shops!
Stores like Plato's closet are becoming insanely popular! They take in gently used, name brand clothing and sell it for a discounted rate. So you can get your favorite brands like Ugg, Nike, American Eagle, Under Armor for a lot less. You can't even tell it's "Used". You can also sell your cloths to them and receive cash for it! So while saving money, you could be getting it back for your cloths!
4. Facebook Marketplace!
Recently, Facebook added a feature where you could sell things - with out being in a specific group like many had done before. What it does, is it takes your location and shows you what's for sale around you. You can even specify and narrow you're search if your looking for something specific. You can find anything from cloths to bedroom furniture on there. And let's face it if your just looking for a couch or chair to throw in your dorm room. You don't need to spend a ton of money on it!
5. Coupons, Coupons, Coupons!
If you're living on campus, you most likely have a meal plan. But let's be honest, the cafeteria food gets old quick! Apps like Retail me not, can help you find coupons. Meijer also has an app that allows you to clip coupons, then in at check out you simply put in your code and it will take your coupons right off your phone. It then keeps a total of how much you have saved that month!
6. Some stores even offer a discount to college students if you show your student ID!
