Life – it’s one tricky son of a b*tch.
From balancing late-night studying and hangovers to worrying about your Instagram flow and Snapchat streaks (first world problems right?), it is no wonder that we all feel borderline insane sometimes.
I like to think of life as a table at a restaurant; sometimes it can support the ten pounds of food you ordered. Other times, you’re faced with one of the worst things in existence- the table that wobbles every time you do so much as pick up your fork.
If you don’t see what I’m getting at here, lemme break it down for you. In life, you’ll go through times where you feel so stable you can take on anything. However, you’ll also face those moments where you’re a little wobbly and might fall apart at any given second.
As someone who has, and continues to struggle with depression and anxiety, it’s safe to say I’m pretty familiar with the wobbly side of things.
So, what do you do when you’re so caught up in the whirlpool of life? The answer is simple – be present. Ha, that was a joke –being present is indubitably one of the hardest things for humans to achieve.
However, just because it’s difficult does not mean it is impossible.
Feeling uneasy about that bad grade you got on an exam last week? Drop it. It happened and you having a panic attack about it will not magically give you an “A.”
Worried that the relationship you’re in will come to an end? Spending your time stressing over what you don’t even know will happen sounds like a pretty big waste of time to me.
We’re so caught up in worrying about what has happened or what is yet to come, that too often we are blind to what is right in front of us.
The fact we’re all borderline phone addicts also doesn’t help the cause.
Let’s take texting for example. Forget the words themselves that we dissect like those poor frogs in high school science class, but there’s also the response time to analyze, whether or not the person has read receipts on and whether or not they respond after they have read it, the little bubble that pops up when the other person is typing so YOU KNOW if they have seen your text and start typing and then STOP, the list goes on and on and on.
Well let me just say, Steve Jobs when I hopped on the Apple train I didn’t know it came with a lifetime “well I’ll just go f**k myself” warranty. Sometimes, you need to just unplug.
Put down your phone, close your laptop, whatever it takes just find a way to detach from this virtual world and focus on how YOU feel and the environment surrounding you. Forget the past, don’t plan the future, and focus on the now because that’s what we’re living in mah friends.
